Located in the region of Umbria, Assisi is the quiet retreat to visit the sacred town where St. Francis was born, lived, began his ministry and buried. His tomb is located in the crypt of the majestic Church dedicated to the Saint that also features cycles of frescoes attributed to Giotto. The rolling medieval streets and the city's silent prayerful aura leave clients with a sense of spirituality unlike any other. Just a short panoramic drive will take clients to also visit the famous Eremo delle Carceri, a small hermitage in a steep forest gorge, where St. Francis used to retreat to pray and contemplate with his fellow brothers.
After a visit to Assisi, the afternoon will offer clients a stop off in Deruta, a hill town and comune in the Province of Perugia. Long known as a center of refined Maiolica manufacture, Deruta remains known for its ceramics, which are exported worldwide. Master craftsmen will be glad to open their workshops for demonstrations and purchases of the most beautiful Italian ceramics. (available here at factory prices).
