Traveler reviews

This full-day experience is designed for travelers seeking a genuine, off-the-beaten-path journey through Tuscany, far from crowded tourist hotspots and classic must-see itineraries. Departing from Florence, the tour explores the lesser-known heart of the region, where craftsmanship, medieval villages, and local traditions remain deeply rooted in everyday life.

The experience begins with a stop at a traditional crystal workshop in the Colle Val d’Elsa area, internationally renowned for its centuries-old crystal-making tradition. Here, guests will witness the exquisite intarsia (inlay) craftsmanship—a highly skilled technique where intricate decorative patterns are carved and inlaid into the crystal. Observing master artisans at work offers a rare, authentic insight into this refined and historic art form unique to the region. (this experience will be on request – depending on artisan availability).

The tour then continues into the historic center of Colle Val d’Elsa, focusing on Colle Alta, the medieval upper town. Walking through narrow stone streets, guests discover historic palaces, quiet squares, and panoramic viewpoints while gaining a deeper understanding of the town’s history and its strong connection to crystal production. The atmosphere here is genuine and local, far removed from mass tourism.

The journey moves on to the countryside near Monteriggioni, where lunch is enjoyed at a well-rated local winery surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Guests savor a seasonal Tuscan meal paired with a guided wine tasting and extra-virgin olive oil tasting, offering a relaxed and immersive food and wine experience in an authentic rural setting.

For guests who prefer not to visit a winery, a reservation at a carefully selected local restaurant can be arranged instead, offering traditional Tuscan cuisine in a non-touristic environment.

After lunch, the tour reaches Monteriggioni, one of Tuscany’s most evocative medieval villages. Completely enclosed by well-preserved stone walls and towers, Monteriggioni offers a timeless atmosphere. Guests have free time to stroll through the village, walk along the walls, and enjoy sweeping views over the surrounding countryside.

The final stop of the day is Certaldo, a charming medieval village rarely included in standard itineraries. Visitors reach Certaldo Alto, the historic upper town associated with Giovanni Boccaccio, and enjoy free time to explore its brick-paved streets, artisan shops, and panoramic views over the Val d’Elsa, ending the day in a quiet and authentic Tuscan setting.

The tour concludes with a scenic return drive to Florence in a luxury air-conditioned van, ensuring comfort and style throughout the journey.
