Toursintuscany is pleased to offer you a 2 days tour of Piedmont discovering some of its most reknown sights to experience its unique products.
1st day: P.up. at your accommodation in Turin or anywhere in Piedmont. We will drive to the area near Barbaresco, a small village in the Langhe that gives the name to the famous wine for a very special experience! You will be immerse in the life of the "Trifulau" (The Truffle Hunter in Piedmont dialect). You will wander through the woods with him and his faithful hunting dog and discover the precious hypogeum mushroom. The work of the truffle hunter is a mysterious and fascinating profession, few people have the opportunity to experience this moment of research in first person, precisely because of its secret nature. The "trifulau" are in fact used to walk alone, sometimes at night, away from prying eyes. The truffle is a limited good that grows only in certain areas, in specific habitats and never certain. Its selling price can be compared to that of gold and it is therefore understandable the interest to keep these places hidden. We believe that the only way to fully understand the uniqueness of this experience is to see the hunter and his dog at work. You will participate in a simulated activity with a professional trifulau and his "tabui" (dog). Some of the truffles are pre-buried by the Trifulau so that he can demonstrate how the work is done. The search takes place in a natural truffle ground, so that it is possible that truffles spontaneously grown on the spot, will also be found.
After the hunt, we will go to the house of the Trifolau not far away and in its renovated and fresh dehors immersed in the typical hilly landscape of Langa. you can delight your palate tasting the typical Piedmontese products based on truffles, all accompanied with tasty local wines.
After this experience, in contact with nature and its flavors, we will reach the small city of Alba capital pf truffle hunters and reknown wines. The ancient city offers an innumerable range of attractions: places of art and religion, period buildings, the famous towers and obviously a remarkable food and wine tradition. You will have time for a stroll before ending the day in one of the best trattoria of the city. Overnight in Alba.
2nd day - Crossing the beautiful hills of this fascinating countryside, we will arrive in Grinzane Cavour. The history of this village owes everything to Camillo Benso Count of Cavour, first prime minister of Italian nation, and important noble international statesman, who was mayor of the village from 1832 to 1848. The whole history of the wines of this land is connected to the Count, who, thanks to his passion for agriculture, was able to solve the diseases that affected the surrounding vineyards. The charming castle is the symbol of the area and houses the ethnographic museum, the regional wine shop and the seat of the world white truffle auction.
After the visit we will stop at the bar of the castle, inside the mighty walls, and we will taste the typical coffee of Piedmont: Becerin. A delight made of coffee, chocolate, amaretti biscuits and cream: it is hard to resist this mixture of taste and aroma! Soon after we will arrive to the iconic village of la Morra, where we will stop in a family-owned estate producing excellent white and rose wines, as well as a well rated Barbaresco and Barolo. We will then enjoy an excellent lunch, based on typical dishes of the area and strictly homemade, accompanied by a tasting of 4 wines, all matched to the right dish.
After relaxing in this splendid estate, we will continue to visit and taste the king of red wines of Piedmont, Barolo. Produced mainly in the area of La Morra and Barolo, this intense and aromatic wine makes use of Nebbiolo vines, so called because it ripens late, in October, just when the first fogs (“nebbia” in italian) appear in the countryside. Barolo offers an intense and persistent bouquet and a full-bodied and robust taste, which perfectly matches with red and savory meats.
Inside the castle, dated back to the tenth century and ancient residence of Marquis Faletti di Barolo, you will find the wine museum and the regional wine shop. Castle and village appear on the rock that closes the road to those who, going up from Alba, want to go to Langa. We will visit then the winery par excellence of these lands, that of the Marquises of Barolo. The old cellars are located right in the village, next to the castle of the Marquises Falletti, the noble family that at the beginning of 1800 made this wine so famous and appreciated. Definitely an excellent, and tasty, conclusion to this weekend entirely dedicated to Piedmont and the discovery of its culinary excellence.
