Traveler reviews

We will drive you to a local Tuscan farm . The day starts in the morning in spring (a little earlier in the summer to avoid excessive heat) together with "truffle hunter", a trusted professional who, together with his inseparable "Isis", a beautiful female of Lagotto with an exceptional nose, will take you around in the wood of our property, in search of the precious and tasty truffle.

Then towards mid-morning, you’ll return to the farm where you will get to learn how to make fresh pasta (tagliatelle) which will be served for lunch. Lunch will be held on the splendid terrace overlooking the vineyards and the olive grove: you can rest, relax and enjoy our homemade lunch

On the way back to your accommodation stop at Piazzale Michelangelo, the famous terrace overlooking the city of Florence: incredible view!!!!

Q&A

Question

What makes this truffle hunting tour a special Tuscany experience from Florence?

Answer

This tour combines nature, tradition, and food in one authentic day at a local Tuscan farm. You will go into the woods with a professional truffle hunter and his trained Lagotto dog, then return to the farm for a fresh pasta (tagliatelle) cooking class, a homemade lunch on a panoramic terrace overlooking vineyards and olive groves, and a scenic stop at Piazzale Michelangelo on the way back to Florence.

Question

How does the truffle hunting experience work, and who leads it?

Answer

The day starts in the morning (a little earlier in summer to avoid excessive heat) with a trusted local truffle hunter who leads the experience in the woods of the farm property. You will search for truffles together with his skilled Lagotto dog, Isis, whose exceptional nose is essential for finding truffles hidden underground. It is a genuine hands-on countryside experience, not just a demonstration.

Question

Is the pasta cooking class suitable for beginners, and what will we prepare?

Answer

Yes, the cooking class is suitable for beginners and for travelers who simply want an enjoyable food experience. Back at the farm, you will learn how to make fresh handmade pasta, specifically tagliatelle, which will then be served for lunch. It is a relaxed and practical introduction to traditional Tuscan home cooking in a beautiful rural setting.

Question

What is included in the lunch at the farm?

Answer

Lunch is served on a splendid terrace overlooking the vineyards and olive grove, creating a peaceful and scenic atmosphere. You can rest, relax, and enjoy a homemade farm lunch that includes the fresh pasta you helped prepare. The focus is on authentic local flavors and the pleasure of eating in the Tuscan countryside after the truffle hunt.

Question

Is there any sightseeing included, and when is this tour available?

Answer

Yes. On the way back to your accommodation, the tour includes a stop at Piazzale Michelangelo, the famous panoramic terrace overlooking Florence, for an incredible view of the city. This tour is available only from Monday to Friday, and the morning start time may be earlier in summer due to warmer temperatures.

Tip Notes: Truffle & Use in the Kitchen

Use truffle with simple dishes: Truffle is best appreciated in recipes with delicate flavors, such as fresh pasta, eggs, risotto, mashed potatoes, or soft cheeses. Simple dishes allow the aroma to remain the main character.

Add truffle at the end: High heat can weaken truffle aroma. For the best result, shave or grate truffle over warm dishes just before serving, or finish the dish with truffle in the final stage rather than cooking it for a long time.

Pair with butter or mild olive oil: Fat helps carry truffle aroma. Butter is a classic pairing, while a gentle extra-virgin olive oil can also work well if used carefully and not too heavily.

Do not overpower the flavor: Avoid too much garlic, chili, vinegar, or strong spices in the same dish. Truffle is aromatic but delicate, so balanced seasoning is essential.

Use small quantities: A little truffle goes a long way. Thin shavings or a light grating are usually enough to perfume a dish and keep the experience elegant rather than overpowering.

Store properly and use quickly: Fresh truffles are best enjoyed soon after harvest. Keep them refrigerated, wrapped in absorbent paper (changed daily), inside a closed container, and use them within a few days for the best aroma and texture.
